Hello guides!
Alot of you are confused over what to do for badges, so the details and assignments you have to hand in will be posted here for you to check:) You can always ask me if you don't understand via sms, email, msn...the likes. Currently, we have...
Writer's Badge

Assignments
1. Write one of the following (in Arial size, font 10):
- A short poem in recognised verse form
- An article of not less than 200 words
- An essay on your favourite hero/heroine
Due Date: 19/10/2009, Monday

Assignments
1. Keep the Guide Health Record Card that can be found in the Guides Handbook for a month starting from 11/9/09. Guides can print or write out since the one in the handbook has already been filled.
Due Date: 19/10/2009, Monday
2. Present using powerpoint format for maximum 5 minutes:
a) In combined patrols, research on how health is affected by a given criteria.
b) Each combined patrol will have to take pictures of their own shoes (or parents/relative etc) that they consider suitable for an assigned occasion. At least 2 pairs of shoes must be shown and with explanations. (Why is it suitable? What are the dangers of ill-fitting and unsuitable footwear?)
(It's supposed to be a table but i can't get it to appear in here...hence it's colour coded. Bear with me - I'm no tech genius. In fact I'm amazed to be able to even come up with this post :D)

1. Write a short synopsis (around 200 words) in arial font size 10 on a storybook written by one of the Western authors.
Note: To Kill A MockingBird is not allowed.
Due date: 16/10/2009, Friday
2. Choose and read a book appropriate to each of four of the following headings:
2.1 Science/Nature
2.2 Travel/Exploration
>> travel guides can be used.
2.3 A foreign country
2.4 History
>> can be history of countries, schools, culture, food, cooking, arts, languages etc
Example: The Soaring Eagle, A History of Anglican High School 1956-2005
2.5 Biography
2.6 A book of poems
Prepare a short speech (at least 1 min per book) to introduce the books read to your patrol members. You can also make a comic strip or use other ways to introduce the books.
Things to include during introduction:
- which heading
- title and author
- gist of content (summary)
- personal feelings/thoughts about the book, e.g. is it nice/horrible?
Due date (to finish reading): 16/10/2009, Friday
3. Bring a passage of your own choice from a sacred book, e.g. the Bible, Buddhist passages on 11/9/09. Those who do not belong in any religions can borrow from their friends.
It should be around 1/2 page long or takes about 1-2 min to read aloud.
