Reflections for Farewell'12

Ci Fang, Sec 2, Orchid Patrol

Farewell is over already in a blink of an eye~ It was a memorable farewell this year and it will be one of my favorite memories in my guiding life. We went through a lot just to prepare for this farewell.

This year, we tried a higher level of performance by learning the actual choreography of Infinite’s Nothing’s Over. Very different from last year’s dance, the dance this year was more complicated compared to our own choreography last year. Our dance group consists of Xing yi, Li Ying, Kirsty, Yun Yee, Bernie, Adeline and me.

On the very first day of our dance practice, Xing Yi, Li Ying, Kirsty, Bernie and Yan Hui met up at 9am to start learning the dance. Due to some personal reasons, I only could make it at 2pm. After I reached at the venue which is our school, I realized that they had only learnt the chorus, which is quite a slow progress. I saw that most of them were slacking, sitting around and did not make use of the time to learn most of the dance. Too fed up to say anything, I made full use of the time I had that day and learnt ¾ of the dance from Xing Yi, who had learnt the dance from her cousin a bit earlier.

I went home all tired, but I was extremely happy that I had learnt a new dance besides NU’EST Face. Later that night, Xing Yi messaged all of us that due to the limited amount of time we had, we have to learn the rest of the dance at home by ourselves. To me, this is a piece of cake because I had learnt NU’EST Face all by myself before and it was way tougher than this. It took me about 2 weeks to master it too. I went online and downloaded the mirrored and slowed version of their dance practice and learned the remaining ¼ of the dance from there. I also posted the link of the video in our group and tagged the dance people. However, I’m not sure if all of them had viewed it. I finished learning the dance within an hour and did not hesitate to practice it everyday at home.

The next thing was I remembered asking them if they had finished learning the whole dance. Instead of receiving a ‘Yes’from all of them, I got excuses such as “I have too much homework”, “I don’t have time to learn”, “It is too difficult”, “I still don’t understand even after watching the video” . I was very frustrated at that time because if I have the time to learn the dance and finished learning the dance, why can’t they do it too? At that time, only me and Xing Yi knew how to dance to the whole song. It felt pathetic… In the end, they asked Xing Yi if they could only dance to parts of the song and not the whole song. Xing Yi agreed. I was very disappointed, there goes my perfect farewell performance… After that, I didn’t hear from them anymore. I’m not sure if they continued learning the dance, but I knew that I practice every single day at home to make sure that I present the most perfect performance to the sec 4 ma’ams.

During our first farewell preparation after school reopened, it was quite chaotic because apparently they did not bother to learn the dance. Xing Yi and I were fretting and trying our best to teach them the dance in the shortest time possible. We realized if we continue to teach them only during farewell preparation, they would not be able to learn the dance in time. So me and Xing Yi decided to teach them after school for almost one week. Luckily, most of them learned it within a day and we told them that they really need to practice at home and this time I think they listened to us.

We were very nervous when we were about to perform the dance item but I think it went quite smoothly. Sue Fang ma’am even asked me where we learned the dance from because it was very nice. I was also very happy that the sec 4 ma’ams said “Good job sec 2s!” after our performance.

This year’s farewell was really a memorable one. During the red carpet walk when we had to salute with two fingers once the sec 4 ma’ams passed by, Rebecca ma’am, Jeannne ma’am and Shirlynn ma’am were being very cute and funny. They made us laugh a lot. All the activities were fun, but I like the part where we get to see the sec 4 ma’ams with graduation hats hairbands the most. They looked very cute and their comments on one another were really funny.

I think that the sec 4 ma’ams are really good leaders. I’m envious of their batch for being so bonded, I hope our batch can be like them too! I look up to the sec 4 ma’ams as my role models and I hope to become as good as them. This year, I will put in my best in everything I do because I want the sec 4 ma’ams to be proud of us and not disappointed in us. I want to tell the sec 4 ma’ams that even though they are not in charge of the company anymore, we will always remember their contribution to the company. The period of time when they guided us were the most precious. I want to apologize to them because we have let them down countless times and they even shed tears for us. It was heartbreaking but now it’s even more heartbreaking that they are leaving… Thank you sec 4 ma’ams for guiding us this 1 and a half year, we will treasure those precious memories with you and we hope that we can see you again sometime. From Sec 1s, you had been taking good care of us and under your endless love, we grew and matured a lot. We will forever remember you as our wonderful seniors. We love you! Always have and always will<3 Thank you sec 4 ma’ams for shaping us and making our guiding life the most memorable! Thank you for lighting up our world~

Yan Hui, Sec 2, Flowerpecker Patrol

This year's farewell was an enjoyable one. The performances were well-presented and the setting of the place was well done-up.

We, Sec 2s performed a skit, song as well as a dance. The performance went on very smoothly and we did not have any mistakes.

We spent about 3 weeks practicing for this performance and we faced some problems while rehearsing. The major problem we faced was people not being able to make it for rehearsals. It was also difficult trying to get people to co-operate and not fool around during the time.

However at the end of the day, despite the problems that we faced during rehearsals, we were able to present our performance without any hiccups.

Although the time that we had for patrol interaction was very little, I believe that the short time we had spent with our seniors were quality time.

I think that this year's farewell was a successful one and we could tell that the Sec 4 ma'ams really enjoyed it. I would like to thank the Sec 3 ma'ams for making this farewell an enjoyable one as well as commend everyone for the effort put in in preparing for the performances. Well done and Jiayou for the future upcoming activities, my fellow sister guides! :)

Joanna, Sec 1, Sparrow Patrol

The idea of making a dandelion our main subject came out of nowhere, as if our minds had suddenly been greatly inspired. We then worked on our simple yet meaningful plot.During this time of planning the basic foundation of our skit, we faced a small difficulty on deciding on the setting of the skit. Some of us wanted it at the airport, then in a plane, while others preferred it at the dock, then the ship. at last, we decided on a ship, mainly because the theme, "Bon Voyage", was usually associated with a setting of a ship in the olden times. next, we decided on our dress code, the easiest : black shirt and dark-colored jeans.
When we were making our props : the ship, we had to spray paint it with some spray paint that Alyssia had gotten. however, as we progressed, we faced a small difficulty... the can of spray paint was running out !! To solve the problem, we shook the can vigorously as we sprayed, and only sprayed on the parts which we thought was important. Phew... finally we were done with the ship :D GREAT INSPIRATION STRUCK AGAIN !! :P the awesome idea of drawing the Sec 4 Ma'ams' faces on the ship's portholes. The names of the Ma'ams were then imprinted on the cardboard by Grace's beautiful handwriting. Thanks Grace :)

Finally. 6th of July, the day of Farewell. Farewell started with the sec 4 ma'ams walking on a red carpet with us saluting to them. we were then seated in the AVT and the emcees, Esther ma'am and Hui Juan ma'am started off the ceremony and they were really cute and funny! the sec 1's item was first, followed by the sec twos. the sec twos performed a wonderful dance and an enchanting song . we then headed off to the canteen for high tea . OMNOMNOMNOMNOM !! the eclair was my favourite.. YUM :P

after high tea, it was the sec 3's turn to perform. their plot was about life in AHS guides and the problems and difficulties we would face. however, it was plotted in a funny and cute way that made us all burst into peals of laughter. after that, Jumpstart followed, and the games soon came along too! the sec 4 ma'ams were given the prize of a cute mini grad hat on a hairband. Clara Ma'am and Natasha Ma'am then gave a speech and it was followed by patrol interaction. Pearlyn Ma'am's rainbow cake was THE BEST !! thank you Pearlyn Ma'am :D thank you Julia Ma'am and Lim Min Ma'am for your gifts, we will cherish them as they will remind us of you and the rest of the sec 4 ma'ams.

Thank You sec 4 ma'ams for guiding us for the past 6 months . we wish you a fruitful journey ahead and we hope u will acheive the best in your future endevours !! Jiayous :D

Evin, Sec 1, Ixora Patrol

I felt that the farewell was very fun yet sad at the same time because the programs organized by the seniors got the whole company screaming an cheering about. However, it was sad as it was officially the last time we were going to see our sec 4 seniors in Girl Guides. The food was quite delicious though, since everyone was hungry after all the excitement. The whole farewell was very organized, in my opinion, and everything went smoothly. I felt that the sec 3 seniors did a really good job in preparing the farewell party.

For the sec 1 item, I felt that we did our best, although I could have actually spoke louder and be more into the character of Isabella. Partly it was because of the fact that I was a little shy and worried that I would say my script wrongly. Despite that, I thought that the ship was quite well done. The props were made mostly by Alyssia, and she did quite a job well done. The drawings on the ship however were done by Joanna and they were really cute. Now moving on the the sec 2 item.
The sec 2 item was nice and I could tell that a lot of effort was put into the dance and into the memorizing and improvising of the Taylor Swift song. The dance was actually quite hard and they pulled it off quite well. I enjoyed it. Although I'm not a k-pop fan, I thought that the choice of music was just right and it kind off applied to what we were trying to tell our seniors. The sec 2 seniors also improvised the song that they sang and I felt that it made a lot of sense. It was beautiful to hear their wonderful voices, and if I am not wrong, everyone sang in key. I liked the picture collage they did of the times they had with the sec 4 seniors while showing the lyrics. It was a wonderful job. The emcees were loud an clear, their conversation was also funny, making everyone laugh. I should learn how to speak confidently, clearly and loudly from them to become a good speaker.

The sec 3 item was really a good laugh. It explained in an exaggerated manner how the sec 4 reprimanded the lower sec when we didn't lock our elbows during drills, have prepared the standard materials needed for outdoor cooking, etc. The transition between each scene was really cute and cool at the same time. I could see a lot of hardworking trying not too laugh while performing as it was really hilarious. It was a good idea behind the making of the short skit. The attire was uniformed and it was nice as it suited well. Despite being busy planning for guides modules, activity, etc, preparing for exams and test, finishing up homework, the sec 3 seniors still had their awesome skit performed wonderfully, I think it was just plain impossible of it were me. They do really deserve praise.

The preparation for our sec 1 item was quite tough as we had a difficult time thinking if the plot for the skit, the attire, the song and sound effects the choir were going to make, etc. We discussed for quite a long time and finally came to a conclusion where everyone contributed an idea to that suggestion. It turned out pretty well after trying to fix the ideas all together and everyone decided to agree on it. We started planning the script, which was mainly edited by Zhi Wei, Tessa, Joanna and Christy while the rest of us thought about the props and attire at that moment. Yee Lin, Aindrea, Grace, Li Ying, Denyse discussed with Alyssia about the props and Nicole, Ilena, Yin Shyn, discussed and learned the song they had chosen to sing. Hui Min, Jaslyn, Lynn and I combined everyone's idea into here storyline. We had some disagreement along the way but soon came to one conclusion and continued working hard. The first ship we made was flimsy, so we had to redo and were at the point, currently short of time. So we stayed back together an completed the ship while rehearsing at the same time. I feel proud that our batch item was quite good and felt really happy that the seniors enjoyed our performance.

It's really sad to see the sec 4 seniors go although we are not very close as they really took care of us when we first came into guides and were unsure of everything. Like for me, I was super blur at the beginning, and didn't know what to do. But with their encouragement and help, they actually taught and helped me a lot in that short period of time. I would like to thank them and wish them all the best in their O'levels.

I really enjoyed myself for the whole farewell and hope to see the sec 4 seniors soon.
